Welcome to the Modern Foreign Languages area of the Website


The MFL Department has access to 28 networked computers in the ICT suite
as well as access to the library for a number of lessons in the
week.  A number of ICT software packages are used regularly by students
and teachers such as Linguascope, Boardworks and Atantot as well as a
wide range of text book resources.  The Department is also equipped with
Interactive Whiteboards, Computers and projectors, Headphones and
Webcams for Podcasting and Video Conferencing. Dictionaries for all
languages are available in every classroom.

Aims of the Department:

- To allow students to experience and enjoy learning Modern Foreign
Languages and information about the culture of the Target
Language countries through a wide variety of resources.
- To aquire knowledge and skills in the use and application of the
Target Language
- To prepare students for successful completion of GCSEs and other
Qualifications in Modern Foreign Languages whilst satisfying all
requirements of the National Curriculum for Modern Foreign Languages Key
Stages 3 & 4.


Descriptions of courses offered:

At Key Stage 3 students are introduced to French, German and Spanish in
specialist MFL classrooms.

At Key Stage 4 students can opt to continue their MFL skills and work
towards a GCSE qualification in MFL certified by WJEC and Edexcel
examining boards.

MFL Topics in KS3 include Family and Friends, Home and Region, Holidays
and Education.

In KS4 GCSE Topics include the Environment, Young People's Issues, Work
and Future Plans.

There is also provision for Japanese GCSE and KS3 clubs in Italian,
Japanese and Portuguese during lunchtimes in the MFL Department.
Students with additional languages such as Polish and Urdu are given the
opportunity to receive certification in these languages at GCSE level.
