Collective Worship

Daily Acts of Worship

Every day students gather either in forms or as a year group for a daily act of worship. The daily acts of worship at Blessed Edward Oldcorne follow the Church’s Liturgical Year. In the form group liturgies prayer leaders lead the form in prayer each morning.  All form groups think about a specific prayer intention following the Catholic Church cycle of prayer.

Feast Day Form Liturgies

On Monday 27th January we celebrate the Feast Day of Blessed Edward Oldcorne. In the week before the his feast day students reflect on the life of Blessed Edward Oldcorne as well as the lives of our college martyrs: Blessed Ralph Ashley, St Margaret Clitherow, St John Wall, St Anne Line, Blessed Humphrey Pritchard, Blessed Robert Sutton and St John Wall

Advent and Lent Liturgies

At the end of the Autumn and Spring Term our form liturgies reflect the importance of the Liturgical Season. In a student lead liturgy we reflect on the importance of preparing for the birth of Jesus during Advent and reflect on the sacrifice Jesus made upon the cross during Lent.

We also start each week with a liturgy in the Chapel. This is each Monday during the seasons of Advent and Lent. The liturgies begin at 8,30am and help us to start each week reflecting on the importance of the Liturgical Season.

Whole School Mass

In September each year we celebrate Mass as a school community to welcome in the new school year and to welcome the new members of our community. We are grateful for the support of our College Chaplains, Canon Brian and Fr Stephen who celebrate Mass with us. We also celebrate Mass together on Blessed Edward Oldcorne’s feast day and for other Holy Days of Obligation.

Friday Mass

Each Friday at lunch time we celebrate Mass in the Chapel. RE classes lead the readings and prayers in Mass. We are very fortunate that Fr Stephen celebrates Mass with us each week.

Ash Wednesday

On Ash Wednesday we mark the beginning of Lent with our Ash Wednesday Service. All members of our College Community are invited to receive the ashes on their foreheads to mark the start of their Lenten journey.

Reconciliation Services

Staff and students have the opportunity to reflect on the importance of reconciliation during the Reconciliation Services in Advent and Lent. These two seasons give us the opportunity to reflect and repent as we prepare for the coming of Jesus during Advent and for his suffering, death and resurrection during Lent. Our local parish priests visit the school to offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
