End of Term Letter

1st April 2021

Dear Parent,

As we approach the end of term, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support and understanding throughout a turbulent time in your child’s education.  When we return after Easter, we will continue to exercise caution and ensure that the processes and guidelines we currently have in place will continue.  There are a few key issues that I would like to draw your attention to.

Your child will be given lateral flow tests which will enable them to test twice a week during the Easter holiday period.  Given that students are not being vaccinated this testing programme is an important measure in ensuring students who are asymptomatic do not come into college.  As always if your child has Covid like symptoms after Easter please do not send them into college and take them to get tested.

The college will be open for track and trace until Wednesday 7th April so if your child has a positive test during this period please notify the college using the covid@blessededward.co.uk email.

Before your child returns to college on Monday 19th April please ensure that they take a lateral flow test either the night before or on the morning of the 19th April.  This will play a key role in minimising  the chances of having asymptomatic students present in college.

Since our return on the 8th March students have been wearing face masks in lessons.  The government said that this would be kept under review and at this point no updated guidance has been issued.  I have been told to expect an announcement during the Easter break so until that comes, we will operate on the assumption that students will continue to wear face masks in lessons after Easter.

After Easter, in the interests of fairness to all, we will continue to reinforce high standards of uniform with our students.  We fully appreciate that certain items have been difficult to source over the lockdown period, shoes in particular. Staff have been lenient and understanding in respect of uniform issues since students returned to college. I now believe that it is time to once again insist on high standards of uniform and thank you in advance for your support of this.  If you continue to have difficulties with sourcing particular uniform items, please do contact your child’s Head of Year and Form Tutor to make them aware and ensure that a note is made in the student’s planner.  Please note that students must wear black shoes and that anything which resembles trainers or has sportswear branding is not acceptable as part of your child’s uniform.

As the weather gets warmer, we will  be asking students to remove their coats when they enter classrooms.  After Easter we will also be asking students to come to school in full school uniform on days when they have P.E.  They will carry their P.E. kit with them and get changed prior to their lesson.  Due to the measures in place in our changing rooms we believe it is now appropriate to do this.  Please do have a look at our uniform policy, a full version of which is available here https://www.blessededward.co.uk/uniform-policy-2020-2021/  and thank you for all you do in ensuring our students take pride in their appearance.

In conclusion, can I wish you a blessed and holy Easter and I look forward to welcoming your child back to college on Monday 19th April.

Yours sincerely

Greg McClarey
