Dear Parent,

Welcome back to a new academic year and a new chapter in the life of our college. As you are aware Mr Devlin retired in July after 16 years of service to our college. It is both an honour and a privilege to follow in his footsteps. I can assure you that I will do everything in my power to ensure that your child receives the education they deserve.

I look forward to your continued support in terms of high standards of uniform. We set the bar high here at Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College in all aspects of college life and smart uniform is one of the ways we maintain high standards. Please note that students must bring a school bag to college which is fit for purpose. Designer handbags or designer shoulder bags are not allowed. We are expecting all students to comply with this by Monday 2nd October.

We have also amended our policy on student use of mobile phones in college. Mobile phones are a part of life now, however in a school environment they are an unnecessary distraction. If a student brings a phone to college it must be switched off and kept in their bag until they have left the college site. If a student is found using a phone in college in the first instance the phone will be confiscated and in most cases returned at the end of the day. If a student is found using a phone for a second time it will be confiscated for a period of three school days. If you need to get a message to your child during the school day please contact reception and we will pass the message on for you. Can I also please remind you that a student who brings a phone into college does so at their own risk.

Our students who left in July achieved an outstanding set of GCSE results. Due to changes to GCSE grading and courses it is not possible to compare their results to those achieved in previous years but we are once again the top achieving school in Worcester city and in the top 4 schools in Worcestershire. What delighted us most was that students of all abilities experienced success which enabled them to move onto the next phase of their education with confidence and optimism.

Blessed Edward’s will continue to be a warm, welcoming and vibrant community where students are respected and supported to achieve their best. Our staff are fully committed to our mission ‘A commitment to Gospel Values and Personal Achievement’. My door is always open and I would urge you to contact us if there is anything that concerns you. I am looking forward to another successful year for our college.

Yours sincerely,

Greg McClarey
