Welcome Back 2018

Dear Parent,
Welcome back to a new academic year. I hope you managed to have a break this summer and spend some quality
time with your family. A special welcome to those of you who have children starting in Year 7.

It is a huge step up to high school and we invest a lot of time and effort into ensuring the transition for your child is a smooth and enjoyable one. From what I have seen so far they seem a very keen and enthusiastic year group.

I look forward to your continued support in terms of high standards of uniform. We set the bar high in all aspects of
college life and insisting on smart uniform is one of the ways in which we ensure these high standards are
maintained. Please refer to the uniform policy on our college website or contact us if you have any queries.

This year I will be focusing very closely on student attendance. Please note that there is no entitlement to time off
during term time and I will only be able to grant permission in exceptional circumstances. If your child’s attendance
is below 95% then no application for time off will be authorised. The college attendance policy gives further
information.

Our students who left in July achieved an outstanding set of results. They and our staff worked extremely hard to
ensure that they are all able to move onto the next phase of their education with confidence and optimism. Results
in the core subjects of English, Maths, Science and R.E. continue to be strong. We also maintained our tradition of
excellent results in Modern Foreign Languages, Humanities and Creative Arts. Parents played a key role in this
success and this is why we place such an emphasis on ensuring there is clear communication between the college
and you.

Please note that our college Open Evening will be held on Thursday 27th September.
Students will leave college at 1.35p.m. on this day to ensure that staff can prepare for this very important event.
Bus companies have been informed and transport home will be available. Staff will be on duty in the college until
3.20p.m. if it is not possible for your child to leave at this earlier time.

Blessed Edward’s will continue to be a warm, welcoming and vibrant community where students are respected and
supported to achieve their best. Our staff are fully committed to our mission ‘A commitment to Gospel Values and
Personal Achievement’. My door is always open and I would urge you to contact us if there is anything that
concerns you. I am looking forward to another successful year for our college.

Yours sincerely,

Greg McClarey
Headteacher
