College is now open to an agreed cohort of year 10 students, key worker children and vulnerable groups.

15th July 2020

Dear Parent

As you will be aware schools will reopen fully from September and all our students will return. For the vast majority of them it will have been twenty three weeks since they were last in the college. One of our key priorities is to ensure a safe return for all students and we believe the best way to achieve this is to stagger the return of students over a short period of time. This will give them time, in a less busy environment, to begin to reacquaint themselves with their friends, their teachers and the routines of college life. Many of these routines will be different and we believe having smaller numbers of students in college for the first few days of term will be beneficial in the long term. The start of term will therefore look like this:

Tuesday 1st September – Teacher Training Day

Wednesday 2nd September – Postponed Teacher Training Day and new Year 7 Students in college

Thursday 3rd September – Year 7 and Year 11 students in college

Friday 4th September – Years 7, 10 and 11 students in college

Monday 7th September – Year 7, 8 and 9 students in college

Tuesday 8th September – all students in college

If your child is not in school on Thursday 3rd, Friday 4th or Monday 7th September work will be set for them to complete on Google Classroom. Students will be asked to show evidence they have completed this work. These days will not count as days of absence on your child’s attendance record. I will send out further details about the measures we will be taking in the college to ensure we are following the appropriate guidance.

School buses will be running along the usual routes from Thursday 3rd September. Students are expected to return in full college uniform as laid out in the college uniform policy however if you have any concerns in relation to uniform please do let your child’s Head of Year know. In addition to the usual equipment there are some extra items we are asking students to have with them in college:

·         Their own personal bottle of sanitizer. We have sanitizer in all classrooms but it will greatly speed up lesson change overs and maximize learning time if students have their own.

·         Green pens so that students can self-assess their own work and note down teacher feedback.

·         A warm, weatherproof winter coat as students will be spending more time outside the college building.

Our aim is to send out further information to parents from the 17th of August via the college app. We will also make this information available on our college website. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support during these unprecedented times. I hope that you get the opportunity to have some quality family time this summer and I look forward to welcoming our students back to their college in September.

With every best wish, prayer and blessing.
