The Zimbabwe Medical Centre Appeal: ‘One Thousand Hearts’
‘Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ (Matthew 25:40)
Dear Parents and Carers
Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College has made links with people from a village called Nyandoro, in the Nyanga Province of Zimbabwe. The people living here are experiencing severe poverty and welcome any help and support they can get. The village is home to families who live in simple huts and houses which they build themselves.
For the past few years, we have been raising money towards the building of a medical centre in Nyandoro. Their nearest medical centre is 20km away, which they have to walk to. Many lives have been lost and suffering endured because of this.
Thanks to a huge effort through fundraising by two or three schools, but largely by us here Blessed Edward Oldcorne, the medical centre has nearly reached roof level. The whole project was held back by the pandemic, however there are now signs of recovery and people in Nyandoro are keen to get building again. Hence I am now launching the ‘Thousand Hearts’ campaign. If one thousand people donate £10, we can raise £10,000 which should be enough to complete the build and to provide medical equipment and beds.
Please will you join in our efforts and support your son or daughter to raise £10? Any donations need to be handed into the Finance office in an envelope with the students’ name, Form and labelled, ‘Medical Centre Appeal’. A huge thank you to those who have donated £10 or more already. We are very grateful and will add the name of each student who brings in a donation to our ‘Thank you Wall’. They will also receive a small ‘heart’ gift in return.
If you have any questions about the project, please contact me, Mrs S Thomas at school. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Faithfully
Mrs S Thomas
