Curriculum – Physical Education
Vision
At Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, we want Physical Education to be as enjoyable as possible. This means fun, engaging lessons and a breadth of activities to interest as wide a range of students as we can. Our experienced PE staff use their knowledge and enthusiasm to prepare lessons to suit the groups they teach and the individuals within those groups.
Our vision is that students leave the college with a positive experience of physical activity and therefore remain involved in sport and exercise and are motivated to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.
The intent of our Physical Education lessons is to nurture a students’ understanding of the benefits of exercise to their physical, social and emotional well being. We will strive to develop their physical competence, confidence and skill level to perform in a range of activities. Students will become knowledgeable in how to maintain their bodies’ and train them to become more effective for different sports. We will provide regular opportunities for students to be leaders, to be creative, to be competitive, reflective and to overcome different challenges as individuals or as part of a team.
Department Virtue
The Physical Education department allows every student to enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, by nurturing an understanding of each others’ emotions and feelings. PE staff also emphasise the importance of sustained effort in achieving success and encourage respect for others.
