Shingles Advice

A pharmacist can prescribe the same antiviral medicine as a GP if you need it. See a pharmacist within 3 days/72hours of the rash appearing.  They can also give advice or direct you to other medical help.

Medicines to treat the virus (anti-viral medicine), for example aciclovir, can be used to treat shingles. Early diagnosis and treatment can help shorten the duration of the illness and reduce the risk of complications, such as long-term nerve pain (post-herpetic neuralgia).
